Alessandro is been one of the best italian playmakers ever. He began his basketball career in his hometown. In 1989 he was the main character of the famous final against Olimpia Milano when the Libertas almost won the Serie A. In 1991 he moved to Virtus Roma where he remained until 1993 winning the Korac Cup. Afterwards he played with Pallacanestro Reggiana, Viola Reggio Calabria, again in Livorno and then Montecatini. The transfer to Capo d'Orlando in 1998 made Fantozzi the hero of the city for having dragged the Sicilian team into Legadue and the Palasport, called PalaFantozzi, was dedicated to him. In 2005, at age of 44 he returned to playing with the Libertas Livorno in C league. In his palmares, in addition to winning the silver medal at the European Championships in Rome in 1991, there are: a victory in the Korac Cup with Virtus Roma (then sponsored Messaggero) in the 1991-92 season, two promotions from the A2 league to the A1 league with Libertas Livorno (1981-82 and 1985-86 seasons) and the victory in the three-point shooting competition at the 1991 All Star Game against the legendary Oscar Schmidt. In November 27, 2009 he became head coach of the Cestistica Gioiese, in Serie C. In the following season he was named coach of Viola Reggio Calabria, he remained there until January 2012. In September 2013 he was hired by Fortitudo Martina Franca in Serie B. In July 2014 he was signed as new coach of the Basketball Monsummano in Serie B. At the end of 2015 he succeeds Valerio Corvino as coach of the Ambrosia Bisceglie (Serie B). In 2018 Alessandro replace Daniele Aniello on the Janus Basket Fabriano on the bench just three games before the end of the Serie B season, thus obtaining salvation with the play out in the Serie B basketball championship. In the second season he leads the team to a third place in the regular season and qualifies for the promotion playoffs, something that has't happened in Fabriano for 15 years due to various vicissitudes, the season ends with the defeat of the quarterfinals against Napoli Basket.
